Dr. SungEun Park New Chair of Austin-Gwangmyeong Sister Cities Committee

We are thrilled to announce that Dr. SungEun Park will lead the Austin-Gwangmyeong Sister Cities Committee, fostering the relationship between Austin, TX and our sister city in South Korea! 

Pianist SungEun Park has extensively performed as a solo pianist and chamber musician throughout Korea, Italy and the United States. Dr. Park has earned her degrees in Piano Performance from the University of Texas at Austin (DMA), Texas State University (MM). Dr. Park joins the Texas State International Piano Festival as Associate Program Director. She also serves as a Director at Austin Harmony Youth Orchestra.

Oita Elite Runner Exchange: Celebrate, Volunteer, Donate

From AOSCC: We are getting excited about the runners coming in from Oita for the February 18th Austin Marathon.

Are you coming to the Welcome Reception  on Friday, February 16 for the Oita runners competing in the Austin Marathon? RSVP and register today. Feel free to invite guests.

We would LOVE to have 60 volunteers helping with the water station for the Austin Marathon on Sunday, February 18, 6:45 am - 1 pm. We will have LOTS of fun, cheering on the runners! We will be learning cheers in Japanese for TEAM JAPAN and the runners from our Sister City, Oita. If you register by this Friday, February 9, you will receive a marathon tshirt. And, there is FREE food! Our station is at Mile 18, near UT.

The Austin Marathon AOSCC Fundraising contributes to the Oita Elite Runner Exchange program.

Austin-Saltillo Represent at All Mayors Sister Cities Summit, Guadalajara

Nick Barreiro, chair of the Austin-Saltillo Sister Cities Association will gather with representatives of other cities and counties from the USA and Mexico in Guadalajara as part of the All Mexico – US Sister Cities Mayor’s Summit, on Thursday, February 15, 2018 - Saturday, February 17, 2018. 

The purpose of this summit is to discuss ways to advance sister city programs between the US and Mexico into the future. It is a great opportunity to showcase grassroots citizen diplomacy in US – Mexico partnerships, revitalize diplomatic relationships, and launch new and innovative programs between communities in each country related to arts and culture; business and trade; youth and education; and humanitarian assistance.

The conference theme of Independence & Interdependence focuses on celebrating the historical ties between US and Mexican civic society, business, cultural and education institutions.

From Lima: Lozano Long Conference - Opening Concert & Reception

This February 21–23, the Lozano Long Conference 2018 will be presenting "Create, Consume, Collect. The Life of Colonial Latin American Artifacts" at The Blanton Museum of Art, featuring two representatives from Lima, Perú.

The Welcome Ceremony will be on Wednesday, February 21 at 5pm. Our friend Susana C. Osorio from Lima Criolla Peruvian Restaurant - formerly La Chaparrita will be serving appetizers and refreshments.

From Oita: Austin Marathon Welcomes Elite Japanese Runners

High Five Events announces the continuation of the Austin-Oita Sister City Committee (AOSCC) elite runner exchange for the 2018 Austin Marathon®. Daichi Tanaka and Junko Sakamoto will represent Japan and compete in the Austin Marathon on Feb. 18, 2018.

“I am both excited and honored to run in the 2018 Austin Marathon as a symbol of friendship between the sister cities of Oita and Austin,” said Tanaka.
